Big Stone (North Sydney)

We went to Big Stone which is a fusion Japanese tapas restaurant. The restaurant was really convenient for me as it is a short stroll from North Sydney CBD.

The menu offers a good range of both Japanese and Spanish dishes. There were some innovative fusion ideas as well. The takoyaki ‘sandwich’ was delicious with the squid ball squashed between crunchy prawn crackers. Wagyu beef skewer was nice and tender. For desserts, the chocolate fondant was perfectly melting on the inside, and the matcha brulee nicely balanced with the lentil ice-cream.

Ginger & Spice (Neutral Bay Sydney)

Pre-booking was essential for a large group when dining at Ginger & Spice Singapore Restaurant in Neutral Bay. 6 of us got in nice and early to avoid disappointment.
The restaurant is reputed for Hainan chicken: tender meat and silk like skin. I was having extra scoops of the chicken flavoured rice just to accompany the thick soy sauce condiment. The authentic water cress dish, stir fried with a good kick from the complex chilli paste, is also our favourite.

Ju Ge Mu & Shimbashi (Neutral Bay, Sydney)

We visited Ju Ge Mu & Shimbashi restaurant on 2 separate occasions because it has two halves: a teppanyaki house and a handmade soba noodle restaurant. You can order from both menus regardless of where you sit.

All the dishes were authentic. The okonomiyaki done on the teppan was comparable to the original at Osaka. And the soba noodles in duck broth was comforting. For something more creative, go for the fried soba noodles or soba crepe desserts.
