est (Sydney)

For our wedding anniversary, we chose to dine at Est. to celebrate the occasion.

We had a couple of mocktails to settle down before the 4-course chefs menu. All the dishes were as pretty as a picture. Spanner crab salad, grilled scallops, venison and passionfruit sorbet were all excellent.

Big thank you for the staff to be very attentive and cater for my wife’s low sodium dietary needs.

Mr Wong (Sydney)

Before going back to full-on mode at work, we had at lunch at Mr Wong with a couple of friends.

There was a large range of dim sum on offer so the meal was an up-scale yum cha at a fascinating venue (do have a tour around the underground level). Quality of food was good but not overwhelming given the price. I had much expectation on the foie gras prawn toast but the foie component seems a bit light. Prawns in the Har Gow was super fresh but maybe over seasoned – probably a way for diners to order more drinks.

Bistrode CBD (Sydney)

We started our Friday night early at Bistrode CBD, the restaurant upstairs of the popular Hotel CBD bar. A favourite among the business diners, the modern dining room wasn’t full for the night.

The $39 Spring feast menu available for September was great value. Portion size was decent and the quality was consistently good. The zucchini flower tart was light and flavourful, and the pork & veal sausage had real chucks of meat within. We ordered the special pate as an addition entrĂ©e – rich, smooth and again generous. It was a satisfying meal.
